Another Versace Introduces a Fashion Line in Paris
PARIS — Donatella was not the only Versace to present a collection during the couture shows this week.
Her niece, Francesca Eleonora Versace, daughter of Santo Versace, was also in town to introduce her inaugural handbag line, called f.e.v., after her initials. The Central St. Martins graduate, who is based in London, said that it had been her long-held ambition to produce an accessories line inspired by the rustic landscape and architecture of Italy.
“I wanted to create adaptable and multifunctional pieces that were at once both classic yet youthful, bags that I would want to use on the move and that I could take anywhere,” Ms. Versace said, surrounded by her wares, which include sleek clutches, cross-bodies and a structured snakeskin beauty case inspired by one her late grandmother owned. Prices begin at 350 euros, or $380, rising to €1,100 for a structured leather backpack.
“I wanted the collection to be full of a 1970s-style glamour and feel quintessentially Italian, but take those components and become something new and contemporary,” she said.
Although she will continue to design from her studio in Shoreditch in East London, all the bags will be made in a factory in Florence, Italy. Ms. Versace said that she planned to expand her accessories line into other sectors, inspired by her travels all over the world.Photo

“It is early days and I want to take this brand one step at a time,” she said, “but I see all sorts of exciting opportunities to expand into areas like footwear later down the line.”
And as a scion of one of the most famous families in fashion, does Ms. Versace feel pressure for the line to succeed? That was inevitable, she said, although she emphasized that the business was a high-pressure field for anyone.
“And I feel very lucky: I come from a family who have made it abundantly clear how much they want me to succeed on my own,” she said. “My aunt in particular has always told me it is vital to enjoy your work. I am very happy with what I’ve done.”
